The Broadway production of the hit movie “Hairspray” which won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical.
WOW!Works® Role:
WOW!Works® was retained to design the specialty effects required by the Scenic Designer, David Rockwell and the Director, Jack O’Brien. These effects include confetti, fog systems and hand-held fire effects.
Project Challenges:
There were several scenes where a small fire effect was required out of a hairspray can that the actor had to trigger
Fog and confetti systems had to live and hide in a large scale hairspray can in which the actor was then revealed
Why It Worked:
Collaboration efforts between the Scenic Designer, Scenic Fabrication Shop and WOW!Works® allowed for a design to be created and implemented quickly
